Flash floods in 3rd Med Water Forum's debate

Cairo was the venue for holding the 3rd Mediterranean Water Forum, organized by NWRC and IME with the support of the Egyptien MWRI and UfM as a previous step for debating in the World Water Forum to be held in Brasilia.
Amongst the main issues concerning water, that Mediterranean countries have to face, is the threat of Flash Floods on fragiles societies settled in arid or semi-arid basins.

eWATER CONSULTANT participated by means of Dr Enrique Cifres, on behalf of SPANCOLD/ICOLD, dealing with floods and dams with the speech titled: “Floods and dams and territory: Reflections on interferences with other cross-cutting strategies”.
Non structural measures complement dam safety and flood control infrastructures.
Risk mapping, risk assessment, early warning systems, emergency action plans, land management, insurance policies, improvement of resilience, stakeholders involvement and transboundary coordination management, were the measures  he dealt with special mention to most recent initiatives as the plattform GH2MF2 conceived to launch a free of charge service to provide real time accurate flow forecasting for unblessed peoples.

The session chaired by Dr Ashraf from the Egyptian Committe on Large Dams.
